‘Twas the night before the election, when all through the house
not a MP was stirring, not even the PM.
The polls were hung on the headlines with care,
in hopes that the voters soon would be there.
The candidates were nestled all snug in their beds,
while visions of pensions danced in their heads.
And the Queen in her hat, and I in my toque,
had just settled our brains for a long election duke.
When out on CBC news there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my bed to see what was the matter.
Away to the browser window I flew like a flash,
tore open the videos, and threw out the ads.
A mere mention of new-fallen snow
gave a local forecast of seven below,
when, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
but a friendly reminder for Canadians to prepare.
With a little bright banner, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be worth a click.
More eager than beavers, all leaders they came,
while Elections Canada listed all of them by name:
“Now Trudeau! Now Harper!
Now, Mulcair and May!
On, Liberal! On, Conservative!
On, NDP and Nay!
To the top of the polls!
To the top of the seats!
Now vote away! Vote away!
Vote away all!”
A new generation of voters willing to comply,
when faced with an obstacle, eagerly on standby
so off to the polls in the morning they flew,
remembering to bring their photo identification too.
The long wait is now over, will there be a dismissal,
can Canada work together and cut through the gristle.
The topic now trending, as I closed the website,
“Happy Election to all, and to all a good night!”
